Die Ankündigung, Windows Server in das Insider-Programm aufzunehmen, sorgte für Spannung. Insgesamt erschienen bisher nur zwei Vorab-Versionen. Die aktuelle bringt bereits keine neuen Features mehr mit und behebt nur noch Fehler.
Die aktuelle Windows-Server-Preview Build 16267, die in der vergangenen Woche veröffentlicht wurde, fällt vor allem durch die Liste der neuen Features auf: „There are no new features in build 16267“. Damit geht die Entwicklung des Server-2016-Nachfolgers offenbar in die finale Phase.
Am 13. Juli erschien mit Build 16237 die erste Preview-Version im Rahmen des Insider-Programms für Windows Server. Schon dort wurde deutlich: Der Schwerpunkt der Neuentwicklungen liegt auf Cloud-Umgebungen – Verbesserungen an der Docker-Integration und den Nano-Images standen im Mittelpunkt.
Bereits mit der zweiten Preview beendet das Unternehmen die Einführung neuer Funktionen. Aus den Veröffentlichungen kann man aber entnehmen, welche Baustellen im Vergleich zur Vorversion geschlossen wurden und wo noch Handlungsbedarf ist. Insgesamt ist die Liste der „Known Issues“ kleiner geworden und enthält nur noch vier kleinere Probleme.

Viel Zeit bleibt den Entwicklern nicht mehr. In einem Blogpost hat Jeff Woolsey, Principal Program Manager für Windows Server, den Veröffentlichungstermin für den Nachfolger von Windows Server 2016 bestätigt: Im Rahmen der Ignite-Konferenz, die vom 25. bis 29.09. in Orlando stattfindet, soll die Software präsentiert werden.
